What Nektan was

Founded in May 2011 by Gary Shaw and floated on London’s AIM market in 2014, Nektan was a mobile-first business-to-business supplier rather than a slot studio. Its proprietary Evolve platform, paired with E-Lite content aggregation, powered more than 100 white-label UK casino brands — letting third parties launch a casino under their own name on Nektan’s technology. Partners over the years included LeoVegas and a Channel 4 ‘Come Dine With Me’ bingo product. Because it was a platform provider, Nektan had no flagship slots of its own; the games on its sites came from aggregated third-party studios.

What happened to Nektan

Nektan grew quickly but was squeezed by the increase in UK remote gaming duty and the rising cost of tighter compliance. By 30 November 2019 it owed HMRC an estimated £4.6m to £5.6m in unpaid remote gaming duty, and it had reported around £9m in losses through June 2019. On 7 January 2020 it sold its UK B2C business to Grace Media, part of the Active Win group, for £200,000. Its shares were removed from AIM following disclosure breaches, and the company entered administration during 2020. The B2B arm was acquired by Real Time Strategic Marketing Ltd and rebranded Markor Technology. Deeming the remaining entity unsuitable, the UK Gambling Commission suspended Nektan’s remote operating licence on 27 April 2021 — effectively the end of the company.

What happened to its casino brands

Because the UK B2C portfolio was sold to Grace Media, Nektan’s former white-label casino sites were either migrated to that operator or closed. Any “Nektan casino” a player may remember from 2019 is therefore no longer run by Nektan; it has either changed hands or shut down. Nektan’s own licence is gone, so none of these sites operate under Nektan today.
